Of course being a nutritionist one of my first stops in Rio was to check out the acai! On a really hot day it makes for a very refreshing breakfast or snack, but how good is it actually for you. Even though acai berries are packed with antioxidants and nutritional goodness they pretty much taste like dirt on their own, so what ‘magic’ happens to turn them into such a sweet treat. Lots of guarana syrup and artificial sweetener unfortunately.  So be warned in this form it’s not going to do your bikini body too many favours! I often prefer to make my own food so I know exactly what the ingredients are. It didn’t take me long to find out acai can be bought frozen from the supermarket (as it’s sourced from the Amazon regions it’s not available fresh even in Rio de Janeiro). It’s easy to make a tasty acai treat at home, blending with banana gives the perfect flavour and consistency. Everybody could do with a little bit of Rio in their day, so try starting your morning with this rocking acai bowl!
